It is my pleasure to invite you to the 8th edition of KIIT International School Model United Nations Conference to be held on the 10th - 12th August 2019. This year’s conference is focused on achievement of Sustainable Development Goals and providing exposure and understanding with the youth to enable them to be active participants in the community. Following the 1983 World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED), chaired by Gro Harlem Brundtland, a 1987 report named 'Our Common Future' was published, defining Sustainable Development as: 'development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’’. At KIIT International School, we believe that it is high time to recognise the future generation as critical stakeholders in both consensus building and implementation of solutions. With that vision in mind, I invite and encourage you to present your opinions and solutions towards achievement of the goals and combating challenges such as Climate Change, Terrorism, Human Rights for all, access to quality education and several other issues.
With merely 11 years left in the deadline for Sustainable Development Goals agenda to be fulfilled, I would like to lay emphasis on the urgency of the situation and hope that we can all get together to be the best change-makers and inspire the community to also get more involved.
I am also proud to inform you that our team has taken it upon themselves to also make on ground impact for the goals with several grass-root interventions such as tree plantation, book collection and promoting awareness on good health, cleanliness and gender equality with the community. I hope that we can all be collaborators in the journey towards a better world.
Finally I would like to remind you and express my sincerely heartfelt belief there can be no UN without you.
I look forward to also extending you the world famous hospitality of the temple city of Bhubaneswar and KIIT International School.
